Calcium carbonate slaked lime

Well, calcium carbonate happens to be a kind of special stuff that can be just the thing for tons of things we use every day. One of the things it becomes is slaked lime, which it’s really cool what you can do with that, too. So, how does all this work?

You know, when you’re making stuff in huge factories, calcium carbonate and calcium hydroxide is cutting you a lot of slack! It’s used to make other chemicals and materials that we need to make a whole bunch of stuff, such as paper, paint and even medicine. Without calcium carbonate, a lot of what we have wouldn’t exist!

How slaked lime is created from calcium carbonate

A lot of calcium carbonnate is then needed to make slaked lime, generally from the rocks under the earth. The calcium carbonate is heated first to make a new thing, called quicklime. We pour water over the quicklime and voilà, it turns into slaked lime! All this new stuff does come in handy in so many ways.

Farmers sprinkled slaked lime on their fields to enrich the soil for production of plants. It may also aid in the removal of harmful pests known to damage your plants. By spreading slakes lime over his fields the farmer can insure a big healthy crop!
