Calcium hydroxide and sodium hydroxide are, among such compounds, very important in several industrial applications. They each have their own properties and uses, and each is used for a separate purpose.

Calcium hydroxide is also a strong base, with somewhat lower pK a (about 12). When in water, calcium hydroxide is a strong base. This material can form salts when in contact with acids. Sodium hydroxide & aluminum sulfate calcium hydroxide, the base, is even more potent, at 14 on the pH scale. It also combines with acids to form salts and water, and with fats and oils to produce soap.

Calcium hydroxide and sodium hydroxide both are strong bases and can burn or irritate surrounding tissues. When applying these chemicals, it’s essential to wear gloves, goggles and clothing that will prevent the chemicals from coming into contact with your skin. In case of getting the product on skin or in the eyes, wash the affected part with water immediately. Avoid these chemicals entering into the gases you breath when using them in a enclosed space instead use them in a well ventilated area.
