Ca oh 2 h2o

Calcium hydroxide, with the chemical formula ca oh 2 h2o is a white powder produced by reacting calcium oxide (CaO) with water. Its hardening properties take effect when it is mixed with carbon dioxide in the air and are why it is a popular ingredient in materials that strengthen and harden, like mortar and plaster.

Water, meanwhile, is a glinting liquid without which life on Earth is impossible. It is applied in diverse fashions, from drinking and cooking to cleaning and industry. When calcium hydroxide is combined with water, they produce a soluble solution that has multiple applications.

Understanding the properties and uses of Ca(OH)2 H2O

A chemical reaction occurs. When water is combined with calcium hydroxide. The calcium hydroxide reacts with the water to produce a solution, also called limewater. This is a high pH solution, or an alkaline solution.

A key characteristic of this reaction is that it is an exothermic reaction. It is a coupling that is beneficial in some uses, such as in concrete which can cure more quickly when the process is accelerated through the heat produced.
