Aluminum sulfate and calcium hydroxide are two such chemicals, which react with each other in a manner unlike that of other combinations. How Do They Work and How Are They Used Differently?
When aluminum sulfate and calcium hydroxide is mixed with calcium hydroxide it forms a precipitate. This new substance is called aluminum hydroxide. Aluminium hydroxide is a white solid, also used on water treatment.
Aluminum sulfate is a chemical compound that consists of aluminum, sulfur, and oxygen. (2)It is a commonly used flocculant in the water treatment industry to help remove impurities from water. Calcium hydroxide, in contrast, consists of calcium, hydrogen and oxygen. It is in fact a common tool in agriculture, used to aid in balancing pH levels in soil.

Aluminum sulfate is added to swimming pools to help clear up cloudy water. When water and aluminum sulfate calcium hydroxide are mixed, the gel that forms casts off the impurities while settling on the floor. Calcium hydroxide is also applied in the agricultural industry as a fungicide or used as a soil amendment, and less frequently as a pesticide, in diluted solution is sprayed on plants to deter flying insects and to protect against fungi.

Chemical Reaction Aluminum sulfate reacts with calcium later hydroxide and a chemical reaction occurs making aluminum hydroxide. Aluminum hydroxide in the flocculation method, which after the impurities bunch together can be easily removed.

Aluminum sulfate and calcium hydroxide are used in a lot of industries and in agriculture. Apart from water treatment applications, the aluminum sulfate plus calcium hydroxide is also applied in several other industries like papers and waste water treatment industries. In agriculture, calcium hydroxide is a major component in the hydration process.
